I am a tenth year, highly-qualified educator with a Class B English Language Arts certificate in grades 6-12. I have worked as the English department chair for the past six years, leading my department to implement practices and programs which have increased engagement as well as test scores. I have served as a mentor teacher for the past eight years and recently hosted my first-ever teacher intern. I led my department in facilitating a professional development session for the math, science, and English teachers in our county on close reading strategies. My teaching philosophy is rooted in passion, professionalism, purpose, and productivity, all of which are essential to the enormous success I have experienced as an educator.
I approach instruction in as balanced of a manner as I can manage. I understand that my lessons should be engaging and creative in order for the students to thrive. However, I also understand that my students must also learn to get to work - and keep working - in a no-nonsense, rigorous environment. So, my style is a blend between old school tough love and passionate expression of creativity
