TEACHING EXPERIENCE

As a military dependent, I have taught in various states (Texas, Virginia, Missouri), and in England and Guam. Because of frequent reassignments, I was able to work in a variety of schools at a variety of grade levels but only for a few years at a time. Although I have been teaching for over 25 years, I finally settled in Colorado Springs and have been at the same school since 2003. I currently work in an alternative high school with at-risk students and have been involved in a variety of programs such as team teaching, Read 180, journalism and yearbook, 21st Century lab, RTI, and curriculum and standards development.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I use differentiated instruction and self-paced assignments in an alternative high school along with some direct instruction classes. In 2013 we quit the self-paced program, but I still have the course contracts I created for every English class and several electives.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I'm still here! I have been bitten by students a few times over the years, but again, I'M STILL HERE!

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have a bachelor's degree in English with a minor in math from the University of Texas and a master's degree in counseling from Liberty University. I am not qualified as a high school counselor, but this counseling degree helps me with students who struggle with many issues. I have never taught math and don't think I could do much more than basic algebra. I'd rather read!

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I have two adult children living in various states and one grandson, but I do currently have two canine kids living at home! Being a bit of an introvert, I enjoy having their kind of conversations after interacting with students all day - ruff, ruff!
