TEACHING EXPERIENCE

We homeschooled our daughter from start to finish! Classroom learning can be an excellent experience, but it was not a good choice for her, due to her high sensitivity and various features of the local schools. We also have shared experience teaching piano, various types of exercise, and English as a second language, in addition to alterative medicine breathing techniques. We believe that education style, materials and circumstances can vary widely and work best when they match a student's specific needs and personality well.

MY TEACHING STYLE

As a child, I was fortunate to attend a private school that used old-fashioned methods that made learning an interesting challenge, and not a struggle or a game. With Canadian Winter Homeschool Materials, our priority is to make this type of learning style fresh again, with tried and true methods that we have brought back to life with age-appropriate curriculum and topics. Our daughter thrived by applying herself intensely for shorter periods of time, so the materials we've put together are very focused and do not contain much busywork. Most of the learning is based on reading. It is expected that a teacher or parent will help the student to understand and work through the lessons (at least to give a time frame for completion) but full instructions are included and should be easy to follow. We enjoy teaching and learning, and hope this is reflected in our books!

Hmmm . . . none yet!

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Advanced classical piano, German at Goethe Institut, three years in McGill's Religious Studies program, Tai Chi, 'teach yourself' how to cook, how to knit, a bit of Hindi, etc. . . . enthusiasm for and curiosity about many subjects!
