Differentiation is classroom practice that looks eyeball to eyeball with the reality that kids differ, and the most effective teachers do whatever it takes to hook the whole range of kids on learning. -- Carol Ann Tomlinson

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught middle school Language Arts and Social Studies in a wide range of environments for 20 years. I love middle school and middle school learners. Currently, I teach 8th grade English in a co-taught classroom, reading intervention, and gifted English/History. I have taught 6-8th grade English, Social Studies, Practical Living, Drama, Journalism, Educational Games, and Civics. I have also served as an Educational Technology Facilitator and am currently pursuing a graduate degree in digital education leadership and a second certification in special education. I am the general education half of a co-teaching team, and focus heavily on adapting and scaffolding instructional tools to meet the needs of diverse learners, and trauma informed teaching.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I love differentiating and student-led instruction. My focus is on using formative assessment meet kids where they're at and get them to reach their goals. We use a schoolwide curriculum for reading, so much of my work is spent on scaffolding, differentiating and building in problem and project-based learning into an already set curriculum. I use trauma informed teaching strategies and lots of variety. My focus in TPT is on designs that engage upper elementary, middle and high school students without being overly cute for those ages. I also focus heavily on scaffolded and differentiated materials.
