I am currently an adjunct professor at Queens College (CUNY) in NYC where I teach an Elementary Math Methods course to preservice teachers. I am also a regional math coach and workshop facilitator. I work in many different schools in the tri-state area providing one-on-one and large group professional development in mathematics. Currently, most of my work is concentrated in helping teachers understand and plan for CCSSM. Prior to this I taught mathematics in NYC public schools for eight years. I began my career in the South Bronx and then moved to two schools in Brooklyn.
I am a constructivist. I believe children learn best when they are woking on engaging, rigorous tasks that challenge their view of the world and expand their horizons. I teach so that all children feel accomplished, everyone wants to feel smart, I don;t simply call my students mathematicians, I treat them as mathematicians.
I was the Regional Math Coach of the Month (August 2012) by Catapult Learning.
I am currently a doctoral student in studying Mathematics Education at the Graduate Center (CUNY). I graduated from the Math Leadership program at Bank Street College where I earned a MS.Ed in Educational Leadership and currently hold a District Leader supervision license. Prior to this, I earned my MS. Ed in Mathematics Education a have 7-12 Mathematics teaching license issued by NYS. Of course, I went to college and majored in Public Affairs.
I am a city girl, born and bred in Brooklyn, NY. I believe math has the power to change our perspectives of ourselves and is a powerful tool to give students voice and choice in their lives. I am a math educator and I love it! I am also a certified life coach :-)
