I worked for 9 years, 2010-2019 at an Alternative Middle School in Idaho, grade 6-8. I Taught English, Writing, Creative Writing, Yearbook, Journalism, Film-Making, and English Tutorial/Lab classes. Now am working in California at an Alternative 7-12 school and am teaching Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Creative Writing, and a Learning Through Bard Games class.
I feel this changes from class to class and student to student. But I do like the Show-Practice-Do method. I also rely on students to help each other, so learning within a community. I like exploration methods of teaching in writing, allowing students the freedom to explore their own ideas, and then working with them to focus, hone, and improve on their ideas. Self-guided learning works as well depending on the subject and assignment, giving students the reigns to take charge of their learning and I becoming a resource for them to utilize. Hands on teaching, I don't give assignment I wouldn't do myself, and I am willing to work with the students when I am able, sitting at their tables and writing along side them.

Along with teaching I am an avid game player and have created a number of board games, one specifically for use in the classroom. Punctuation Pirates and Their Grammar Galleons is a board game I co-created with my mentor teacher and friend and we have used it to great success and fun in the classroom for about 8 years now. Links to the files can be found here: https://randomskill.games/product/puntuation-pirates-and-their-grammar-galleons/ I love games and I love teaching, being able to bring both together is a blessing and a great joy in my life.
