Her first publications, the 12-book Dainty Dinosaur series (1987), continue to delight young readers and elicit flashbacks for caregivers. “They’re just as fresh today,” remembers a fan when her grandchild shared the books. With a masters degree in elementary education, and special education administration, from Indiana State University, Hajdusiewicz taught early childhood, elementary, and all special needs children of all ages and abilities, served school districts in Indiana and Michigan as director of special education, and taught teacher-certification courses at both Eastern Michigan and Cleveland State Universities. She is a frequent conference keynoter and popular visiting author in schools around the country. An Outstanding Young Woman of America in 1968, Hajdusiewicz has founded various outreach programs for children and families, from teaching kids to sew to her original and oral language pioneering program, Pee Wee Poetry™ for ages two through nine, (1978). Without a doubt, her passion for children and teaching led her to write for kids. Hajdusiewicz founded Booking the Future: Reader to Reader™, a community-involvement literacy program that placed books in the hands and homes of 16,000+ four-, five-, and six-year-olds. Hajdusiewicz’s work includes “Literacy Lunch & Learn” outreach to businesses and corporations where Hajdusiewicz motivates employees to practice her easy, practical, and fun ways to use vocabulary and knowledge when interacting with children.
