I have been teaching for just about 25 years. Most of these years have been in fourth grade, but I looped for 2 years with third grade. I have worked on our district's science curriculum and have written units that go along with NYS Science Standards. I have also worked for a year as a math specialist. With my Special Education background, I have spend years with students blended into our class. I am on the board of our state Science teachers organization as an Elementary SAR (Subject Area Representative.) Because of this, I have presented at the the state level at the STANYS annual conference.
I love using cooperative learning techniques I learned from going to a 5 day Kagan workshop. I use small groups as well as large groups. I try to make leveled assignments to help the many levels of abilities in my students. In science I use an inquiry based style of learning, and that has trickled over to my teaching of reading as well!
