I have experience teaching in 1st - 5th grades, but am currently teaching 4th grade. I teach in an inner city school, so there is a very diverse population with a lot of English Language Learners.
At our school, we are fully engaged in Common Core. In my classroom, we do numerous book studies as a whole group. We also do a lot of cross curriculum during our reading time so that the students also get Social Studies and Science. I encourage reading and try to introduce the students to a broad amount of texts so I can appeal to each of them. In our classroom, there is a lot of collaborative learning going on. The students sit at tables and often have to work with their table or a partner. I encourage the students to share their ideas and try to teach them real-world situations of having to deal and converse with many others. I think that it is important to have a balance of everything- from practice to exploring, from individual work to partner work, from fiction to non-fiction.
I am a member of the National College Honor Society from having a 4.0 in my degree program at Grand Canyon University.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Arizona State University and a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an Emphasis in Reading from Grand Canyon University.
