I am in my 21st year of teaching in a pubic elementary school in Arkansas. I am currently in my dream job! I'm in my first year of teaching K-6 Technology classes after teaching 5th grade for 20 years. During the first three years of my 5th grade career, I taught all subjects and kept my homeroom all day. Then, we departmentalized and I taught Math for 3 years. Our school reconfigured once again, and for 11 years I taught Math and Science and Technology. During my last 3 years of teaching 5th grade, I taught Social Studies and Input Technology. I now teach K-6th grade Technology classes in a computer lab setting.
I teach with a hands-on approach. I think students learn more when they discover and experiment for themselves. I try not to answer student questions with a direct answer. Instead, I will respond with a question that promotes further thinking or investigation to obtain answers they are seeking. I try to make lessons fun so that students are engage and enjoy learning. My classroom is very structured and students are in charge of their own learning.
I was voted Educator of the Year at Wilson Middle School. I was fortunate to be accepted to present at ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) along with two of my colleagues and we also presented at our state Technology Conference, HSTI (Hot Springs Technology Institute) in Hot Springs, AR. I am a member of Arkansas' TIE (Technology Infused Education) Cadre. In the summers, I facilitate Professional Development for our Educational Cooperative and I have presented workshops for my School District.
I have a BS in Elementary Education, a dual Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and Administration from Arkansas State University. I am certified to teach all subjects in grades 1-8, and K-12 Computer Science classes.
