I've taught elementary school for ten years, grades 1-4. I've taught Gifted and Talented fourth graders, and many students on the spectrum. I've taught Title I minority and ESL students, and high-income, privileged kids. I've taught in a big, public district; in a high-performing charter network; and in a small, neighborhood charter school. Basically, I've seen a little bit of it all.
I prefer a structured environment, where routines and procedures are predictable. Once expectations and relationships have been strongly established, then I mix things up with hands-on projects, songs, plays and other interactive activities.
I've been selected to mentor three different first year teachers. I've been chosen to be my team leader, and to lead a variety of professional development sessions for my peers, on topics ranging from differentiation to classroom management.
I have my BA in philosophy, with a minor in art history. I was a Teach For America corps member, and continued in my placement school for a total of 4 years, earning my Masters in Teaching in the process.
