We have a combined total of 58 years in education----33 years as elementary math specialists. Sherri has 25 years and Jan has 35 years of experience.
We passionately believe that students need a strong foundation to build their mathematical thinking. That strong foundation has to begin with conceptual understanding in each of the topics covered. We want students to THINK for themselves and use their own math reasoning to solve problems----which means we try to instill in our students a sense of pride and perseverance along with the understanding that being "good" at math isn't based on the speed at which you can calculate. Being "good" at math means you have a way of thinking through problems that is based on strong number sense and mathematical reasoning. When working with struggling students, we are all about hands-on experiences and student-centered discourse.

We are both happily married to wonderful, supportive husbands. Between the 2 of us, we have children in high school, college and beyond. This explains part of the "distracted" in our title. We always have many things to catch up on....
