Writing the Five Paragraph Essay

This pack is a seven page FRAMEWORK for helping students to write a five paragraph essay. It is designed to use a combination of brainstorming, graphic organizer mapping, and an a peer editing process that uses specifics from the essay, as opposed to simple checklist editing. It is applicable not only in English/Language Arts, but is an excellent tool for any teacher across content areas who has been asked to include writing in their curriculum, and can also serve as an excellent, easy to explain and easy to use product for professional development. Many teachers who are not trained in English/Language Arts struggle to teach students how to write, and this product is perfect for such teachers. This product DOES NOT contain specific maps or activities targeted at specific essay types, such as argumentation, but is designed to be an overarching framework that can apply across not only essay type, but across grade level and subject area. Keep an eye out for supplemental materials, as the shop will soon have more products that are specifically targeted towards each type of essay required by the Common Core Standards. The product, while not an especially lengthy download, makes the process of crafting a five paragraph essay much, much easier for struggling students. It is the result of a seven year project that has been tested in my own classroom with more than a thousand students, and it has has been refined and peer reviewed repeatedly. It is NOT a complex product, and it is not designed for higher performing students. It is specifically designed to be simple, but extraordinarily helpful for students who struggle to craft strong writing.
