Word Wise: Develop Word Attack , Decoding, and Spelling Skills Book

Word Wise is a research-based program of interactive instruction that teaches the immediate recognition of common word parts and typical syllable patterns. Once students recognize these patterns, they can confidently decode and spell multisyllabic words. This book contains the detailed lesson plans.

Word Wise has been used in the third quarter of grade 2 through grade 6 and is compatible with any reading series or program. After completing the 55 daily 15-MINUTE lessons students will be able to:

� identify the 120 most common word parts in American English
� predict vowel sounds in multisyllabic words based on typical syllable patterns
� apply essential vowel rules as well as recognize and pronounce "outlaw" vowel pairs (au/aw, ou/ow, oi/oy, etc)
� confidently decode unknown words by producing a close (if not exact) pronunciation
� demonstrate stronger spelling skills
