This is a packet for the movie West Side Story. This packet addresses themes across Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story.

Packet includes section for students to discuss the theme of the works, discussion questions for the film, a character comparison chart, and a New York Times article on the gentrification of San Juan Hill which inspired the Broadway musical West Side Story.

Discussion question topics include: territorial attitudes, characterization, symbolism, use of film techniques to establish connections and tropes, parallels between the film and Shakespeare's play, and the American Dream.

Discussion questions range across varying levels of depth of knowledge.

The document is also written using the font Lexend Deca for ease of reading for students in general, as well as those with dyslexia.
