Vertical Alignment Planning Guide

Let this document serve as a planning guide for your teachers. This 7-page guide was created with collaboration in mind, and encourages teachers to work with the grade levels above and below their taught grade in order to identify pre-requisite skills, as well as discuss and plan for vertical alignment of vocabulary development within their content. Additionally, there is a focus on developing a unit test/curriculum assessment before the teacher actually plans lessons for the unit, encouraging teachers to engage in backward design.

Note: The content in this document are intended for Texas, with references to several documents available within the TEKS Resource System and lead4ward.com. For those in other states, you may find it beneficial to tweak the document based on resources appropriate for your state content standards or curriculum guidelines.
