Description
Are you searching for a step-by-step PowerPoint that can be used to teach your students how to attack two-step word problems in a way that will grab their attention? You've come to the right place! This 40-slide PowerPoint focuses on solving 2-step word problems using the 4 operations- addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. (CCSS 3.OA.D.8). It includes nine practice problems that can be used for guided practice before your students tackle problems independently.
PowerPoints filled with visuals are ideal for teaching new content to students because PowerPoints tend to be highly engaging and concepts can be easily broken down into understandable chunks of information. But let's face it... they are so time-consuming to create! Fortunately, now you have an option of using one that is already complete, kid-tested, and ready to go for you!
HERE'S THE SEQUENCE OF TOPICS COVERED IN THIS POWERPOINT:
- Slides 1-8: Introduction. A "math-in-the-real-world" problem is presented where students must complete two steps (counting money and division) in order to determine the answer.
- Slides 9-13: Introduction to the 5-step process that students will use throughout the PowerPoint to attack 2-step problems
- Slides 14-40: NINE separate problems are introduced and solved in a sequential manner using the 5-step model described above. (This PowerPoint is fully animated so that each step is presented individually, and students can work through each step of the process on their handout as the teacher advances the PowerPoint.)
The 5-step model includes:
- Read and visualize the problem.
- Explain what you first need to determine.
- Execute the operation needed to complete Step 2.
- Explain what you need to determine next.
- Execute the operation needed to complete Step 4.
***A PowerPoint companion handout is also included in this file. As you advance through the PowerPoint, students can record their answers on the handout. The companion handout is available in both printable format or digital format.**

This PowerPoint was created to specifically address Common Core State Standards 3.OA.D.8. (It can be used with multiple upper elementary grade levels, though, as this is often a challenging skill that needs to be revisited throughout multiple grade levels.)

⭐️ The Velveteen Teacher said, "This product is amazing and really helped my students who were struggling to solve two-step word problems. This breaks it down and asks the students "What do you need to do first" and then what do you need to do. It really helped my students know where to begin."
⭐️ Ashton J. said, "This resource really breaks it down for the students and makes them really analyze the problem. Love it!"
⭐️ Stacey H. said, "Very engaging PowerPoint that teaches strategies and allows for plenty of practice of two-step word problems!"
