Description

This activity is a 5-Act, 25-role reader's theater script for the three branches of government in the United States of America! This in-depth, historically-accurate resource includes information about the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of government, as well as checks and balances. Reader's Theater is an engaging instructional strategy for students that allows them to act out various historical scenes. This resource also helps build fluency and reading comprehension skills.

The acts are as follows:

Act I: A Plan for Government

Act II: A Two-House Legislature (Legislative Branch)

Act III: The Chief Executive (Executive Branch)

Act IV: The Supreme Court (Judicial Branch)

Act V: Checks and Balances

Each act includes discussion questions. There is a quiz for students at the conclusion of the play, as well as an extension activity in which students will create their own script through research for How a Bill Becomes a Law!

Answer key is provided for the quiz.
