Description
This module is specifically about the wreck and loss of the iron ore freighter,the Edmund Fitzgerald. It affords the student to learn about the structure of the ship, parts of it, and just a bit about the crew. Living in close proximity to Lake Michigan was a great asset to Professor Moose in acquiring information.
It tells about the Coast Guard's warnings of a storm and the determination of a captain and crew to force the freighter to do its job, to say nothing of pressure from a shipper to deliver the goods. We learn facts that speculate what actually happened, that this ship snapped like the Titanic.
Activities are meant to help students think critically,even as far as getting in touch with the Kenosha Historical Society/Lighthouse system and the Michigan Maritime Museum. If you live near a Great Lake, try to visit.
