What educators are saying

Great resource to learn the rhythm using the pizza. Students are engaged when they can choose their favorite toppings.

Description

This unit is one of my most popular lessons! There’s no better way to teach rhythmic concepts than through rap; and this unit gets the students rapping about one of their favorite things: pizza!
The unit comes with:
• Level 1 score: quarter and eighth notes, quarter rests and four instrument accompaniment
• Level 2 score: adds sixteenth notes to the rap
• Level 3 score: adds dotted rhythms to the rap and accompaniment
• Level 4 score: adds syncopation to the rap
• Alternate scores for each level with two or three instrument accompaniments
• Five mp3 recordings of drum rhythms to use as additional accompaniment
• Assessment 1: Composing rhythms in 3 or 4 (comes in levels 1 and 2)
• Assessment 2: Composing raps in specified rhythms (levels 1 and 2)
• Assessment 3: Identifying note values in relation to fractions (level 2)
• Assessment 4: Identifying the rhythms of phrases (levels 1 and 2)

The package also comes with a lesson guide with sample procedures.
Depending on the level you choose for your students, they will:
• Distinguish between rhythm and beat in music
• Read, write and perform rhythmic patterns using quarter notes and eighth notes
• Identify and perform rests in written notation
• Perform combinations of sixteenth notes and eighth notes in written notation
• Identify, describe, and perform dotted rhythms.
• Identify and work with syncopated rhythm patterns.
• Apply rhythms to songs and kinesthetic exercises.
• Apply their knowledge of various time signatures of duple and triple meter and use this information in reading familiar and unfamiliar music.
• Read and interpret a score
• Understand tempo and its affect on performance as well as aesthetics.
