Description

Toys that do not require electricity or batteries and the creation of optical illusions can be entertaining as well as educational. Students will discover first hand the persistence of vision by creating their own thaumatrope, a toy that was popular in Victorian times. Using a round card with a picture on each side, string is attached to two opposite ends of the circular card. When the strings are twirled quickly between the fingers the two pictures appear to combine into a single image due to persistence of vision.
