    Description

Do your students need more ENCODING practice for writing CVC WORDS, CVCE (silent e), DIGRAPHS, and BLENDS after segmenting each word (isolating each sound)? This ST. PATRICK'S DAY WRITE THE WORD BUNDLE includes NO PREP engaging activities for students to complete independently, in a small group or as a whole class activity. All resources include SHORT VOWEL sounds only.

PLEASE be sure to view the PREVIEW and DESCRIPTION for each resource included in the bundle to see everything that is included.

The bundle includes two CVC resources (pot of gold and shamrock), and one resource for CVCE (shamrock), DIGRAPHS (pot of gold), and BLENDS (pot of gold).

Each resource has pot of gold or shamrock graphics (9 graphics per page) on each page. There are pictures of CVC/CVCE/DIGRAPHS/BLENDS words on each pot of gold or shamrock. There are sound boxes (one box for each sound in the word) under each picture for students to write each word in after sounding out and stretching each word.

Please note that this resource uses Elkonin boxes (sound boxes) to help students build phonemic awareness by segmenting words into individual sounds.

    DIGRAPHS:

One sound should be written in each box, but please remember that digraphs are two letters that make one sound. In the word "chip," the /ch/ sound is one sound, but uses two letters to make that sound. When writing the word "chip," the "ch" should be written together in one box, the "i" is written in a box by itself, and the "p" is written in a box by itself. There are 3 (sounds) boxes for this word, but 4 letters.

    BLENDS:

One sound should be written in each box, but please remember that blends are two letters that make two separate sounds so each sound in the blend should be written in separate boxes. In the word "clip," all 4 letters should be written in separate sound boxes. Some of the words end with digraphs sh, th, and ck. There are still 4 (sounds) boxes for these words, but 5 letters like in the word "block." The b, l, and o should be in separate sound boxes, but the ck should be written together in one sound box because the two letters make one sound.

    CVCE:

I have included 2 options for the CVCe (silent e) pack. Please look at the answer keys if there are any questions regarding the two options included.

    1. The first of each CVCE page requires students to write the silent e in the same box with the last consonant sound.

    2. The second of each CVCE page requires students to write each sound in the sound boxes, but write the silent e at the end of the word outside of the sound boxes since the e doesn't make a sound.

With all of these silent e words, I have included the 2 options mentioned above. Some people include the silent e in a box with the last consonant. Other people want the silent e written outside the sound boxes since it is silent. That's why I included the 2 different options.

**If you are unsure of where letters should be written, I have provided ANSWER KEYS for every page in the Digraph, Blends, and CVCE packets showing exactly what letters go in which boxes.

**Some images are repeated on pages.

**The exact words included on every page can be viewed in the PREVIEWS.

NOTE: Your students will benefit more from completing these worksheets as a small or whole group with the teacher naming each picture for them rather than as an independent activity. Some of the clip art may be hard for the students to figure out independently. This is why a "Name that Picture" page is provided in all five resources that tells the word for each picture to prevent any confusion of the picture names. Keep the pages handy when using all of the pages in each pack.

Answer pages are provided for every page in the digraphs, blends and CVCE packs (not the CVC packs) either as a self-check for students in an independent literacy center or for the teacher to have an answer key to quickly check papers.

If students finish early, have them flip to the back of their paper and write a sentence with each word on the front. Students can also color the pictures after completing the page.

These worksheets make a great morning work activity, homework, literacy center, writing center, word work activity or a review for multiple phonics skills. Students love using their mini slinkies to stretch out the words.

I hope your students have fun with these "Write the Word" activities.
