Do you need notes for short story devices, but don't want to type it all up or find pictures for every slide? Look no further! This resource of short story literary terms can be used for high school or late middle school. Gorgeous pics on almost every slide. Students can practice their knowledge of the short story devices through various exercises like flashcards and crossword puzzle.

- Short story elements slideshow (with relevant pics and explanation)
- a regular template for students to write the definitions on (can be hole punched to fit in binders)
- a scaffolded fill-in-the-blank version of the notes for slower writers or students that require accommodations
- a full set of note cards with the definition on one side. Students can cut them out and write the term on the back and use them as flash cards for studying
- a crossword puzzle for students to practice what they're learning or to use as a fun review game
In addition with the various note styles, you could differentiate for your students.
You could allow advanced students to write the entire definitions on their own paper, intermediate students could write the definitions in the vocab template, and special ed or struggling students could simply fill in the blank.
These work great for independent learning. When students must work from home, they can copy the notes and get a crossword puzzle to practice what they've learned. Have students apply their learning of these terms by reading various stories like "The Lottery", "The Most Dangerous Game", "The Necklace", and "The Cask of Amontillado."
