    Description

This dynamic short story unit bundle includes activities that are both engaging and rigorous for students and easy for teachers. It includes so many print-and-go items.

Students will read and complete activities around the following texts: The Lottery, The Necklace, The Most Dangerous Game, The Cask of Amontillado

Engaging activities include a fake Buzzfeed quiz to get students to anticipate a text, activators and summarizers for lessons, several activities that include manipulatives for kinesthetic learners to show their learning, and stations to review for the final test.

In addition, this unit provides skill-learning activities. Activities are provided to help students master identifying foreshadowing, POV, irony, and mood through connotation. A literary analysis paragraph is also included with a thesis sentence starter.

Finally, this unit is prepped for collecting data. Assessments are skills-based. Students will read passages they have never read before and apply the skills they have been learning in this unit. This unit includes two skill quizzes (formative) in addition to a final skills-based test (summative). These formative skills quizzes are taken after reading certain texts and practicing certain skills. Teachers can collect data on certain skills like identifying mood or irony. Then, they might do several activities practicing that skill, and then give another skills quiz to test whether students are learning via these methods. Plus, the second skills quiz can also give teachers data about what they need to review before taking the final summative test.

This unit truly has all that a teacher needs to teach a powerful and engaging short story unit.
