This 3-4 week unit will teach your second grade students the routines and procedures of writing workshop, as well as review foundational writing skills.
In addition to helping you launch your writing workshop, the materials will also guide you through taking beginning-of-the-year narrative, informational, and opinion writing samples from your students. Correlation to the Common Core Standards are included, but this unit will work for any second grade writing workshop, Common Core or not.
This unit is designed to be taught at the beginning of the school year but can also be used whenever you begin to implement writing workshop.
In this unit, students will learn:
- The routines and procedures of writing workshop
- How to brainstorm ideas
- How to plan a story using a graphic organizer
- Different spelling strategies
- The stages in the writing process
- Basic revising strategies, including how to add more details
- Editing strategies
- How to share work with a partner and how to revise/edit with a partner
