What educators are saying

I've always felt that writing is daunting to teach, especially writing workshop. This unit has it all and lays everything out in a clear way.
Thank you so much for this wonderful resource! It’s so easy to follow and teach. I only wish I had more time in my day to implement this curriculum. Our writing time is always cut short. The students love the lessons that we are able to get to.

    Description

Make it easy to plan your writing instruction with this yearlong bundle of narrative, opinion, and informational writing lessons for second grade! This complete second grade writing program also includes posters and visuals, assessments and writing rubrics, and grammar/language arts activities that will save you time.

    ------

You know that writing is an important part of literacy instruction. You want your students to become stronger writers - and actually WANT to write, too!

But maybe you don't have all the tools you need to make this happen.

Maybe you're feeling a little lost about what specific skills to teach. Maybe your current writing program just isn't cutting it...it's too difficult for students, not engaging enough, or just takes forever to read through. Maybe you're spending hours and hours planning your writing lessons!

I can relate to all of this - and that's why I ended up developing my own writing lessons for my second grade students. I wanted to challenge them, but also make writing fun and appropriate for their levels!

Today, over 4,000 teachers have used these same writing lessons with their second grade students. They use them either as a standalone curriculum or to supplement their schools' existing writing program.

This second grade writing curriculum will help you:

    - Get your students producing lots of writing!

    - Establish writing workshop procedures that increase students' independence

    - Engage students in meaningful, enjoyable writing activities

    - Challenge students as writers, while still honoring their developmental needs

    - Significantly cut down on your planning and prep time

Here’s what the second grade writing curriculum includes:

    - 8 units that teach writing workshop routines and procedures, personal narratives, informational/nonfiction/"all about" writing, opinion pieces and letters, biographies, science experiment reports, and poetry

    - 156 complete, detailed minilessons with objectives, Common Core standards, materials, and procedures listed (great for subs or maternity leave)

    - Daily language arts/grammar exercises (i.e. sentence fixing, sentence combining) that complement the minilessons

    - Posters, visual aids, graphic organizers, an alphabet chart, a writing stages display, materials to make genre bulletin boards, and other printable materials (all color materials also have black and white versions)

    - An assessment structure that assesses students’ writing at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year (with comprehensive narrative, information, and opinion writing rubrics)

    - Additional student- and parent-friendly rubrics

    - Organizational materials for you (anecdotal note form, conferring schedule, and checklists)

What Others Are Saying About This Product:

“Possibly the best things I bought on TPT are the Reading and Writing bundles. SOOOOO incredibly AWESOME! My school uses Teachers College and their units are very vague. These units are detailed, and also actually align to the common core unlike TC. THANK YOU!!!”

    – Amy K.

“I am so glad I purchased this curriculum. I feel so prepared for writing this year at homeschool. I love the mentor texts which guide me in how to teach a lesson. Everything is laid out so neatly. This curriculum is the total package. I am so glad I attended the webinar. I would have never known what a gold mine I had sitting right at my fingertips.”

    – Lenita G.

“I have been struggling for the majority of the year with teaching writing. What to do, how to do it, in what order. This is a game-changer. I have found resources in this bundle that I can use now but I am so excited for writing next year starting from the beginning and following this sequence.”

    – Felicia M.

    Frequently Asked Questions:

Is this curriculum based off another program?

This curriculum uses the writing workshop model. Other writing programs also use the workshop model - but this writing program is original and not based off any other program. You can use the Second Grade Writing Workshop Curriculum Bundle by itself or with another writing program.

    Are the files editable?

Editable versions of the lesson plans are available. Due to copyright restrictions, the other parts of the materials (like posters and other printables) are not editable.

    Will this work for homeschooling?

This curriculum is based on a traditional classroom setting, but many parents have used this for homeschool instruction as well! You can read more about how to adapt the writing workshop curriculum for homeschool students here.

If I purchase just one unit and decide I want the bundle, can I get a refund for the unit I already purchased?

Absolutely! Once you've got the bundle, you can contact TpT support and explain that you now have a duplicate purchase. They'll refund you the purchase price of that one unit.
