Description
In this excellent unit aimed at elementary students, particularly those in Kindergarten or a little older. Students are introduced to simple block coding using the Scratch Jr app. This is available for iPad, tablet, phone, computer or mac.
This unit can be taught standalone or in conjunction with the prior computer thinking unit, which helps students learn the various skills need to think like a coder.
Students work through the following lessons.
L1 - What is coding? This builds on from the computer thinking skills unit.
It uses a simple online coding activity to reinforce the idea of giving instructions to a computer.
L2 - Scratch Jr - An Introduction - Students learn how to add backgrounds and Sprites to a first program.
L3 - Scratch Jr - Face Filters - Students learn how to create their own Sprites. Next they learn how to add code blocks to resize the sprites and make them visible or invisible. Students also learn different event to trigger code and how to add wait commands.
L4 - Scratch Jr - Speech and movement. Students learn how to code their Sprites to talk and move.
L5 - Scratch Jr - Students learn how to record audio and integrate it into their code.
L6 - Scratch Jr - Students learn how to add additional scenes and create a cartoon that occurs in different locations.
There are 6 presentations with over 100 Slides.
