What is the challenge?

  • This STEM Challenge will have your students exploring with a bubble solution.
  • The Exploration or Imagining stage of the process includes trying to create bubbles in specific ways and learning how to manipulate the bubble solution.
  • The design challenge takes the fun one step further as students create a way to make the largest or most unusual bubbles they can!

What is your prep?

  • A full-page guide is included with tips about the materials you need. The list below has suggestions. You do not need to have all these things!
  • Materials you must have include dishwashing liquid, glycerin, and small containers (like aluminum pans).
  • Optional materials: plastic lids to containers, straws, various items to use in the design challenge (like pipe cleaners, washers, rubber bands, plastic canvas, screen, binder rings, paper clips, cups), and lots of towels.
  • You will need to mix your bubble solution and organize the containers in supply bins or on trays.
  • The teacher's guide will help you with this!

The lesson guide provides:

  • Materials list
  • Preparations list
  • Full page of tips about materials
  • Bubble solution recipe
  • A simple explanation of the science behind bubbles
  • Detailed step-by-step Teacher's Guide
