Description
This set of cards is included in this novel study: Riding Freedom (Pam Muñoz Ryan) A Complete Novel Study
I created these Common Core (CCSS) aligned discussion and constructed response questions for the wonderful novel, "Riding Freedom". If you and your students love "Esperanza Rising", I highly recommend "Riding Freedom". Although the book is a work of fiction, it is based on the true story of Charlotte (Charley) Darkey Parkhurst - a woman who posed as a man and was able to vote before women were granted the right to vote!
I decided to make cards for a couple of reasons:
1. I made them to save paper. Once you print and laminate these, you can use them for many years in either a literacy center or in small group instruction.
2. I wanted to make them aesthetically more appealing and colorful.
The set contains 34 discussion questions in both black and white and full color. I have also included a R.A.C.E.S. chart to remind students to use R.A.C.E.S. when answering discussion questions.
Although I am and have been a fifth grade teacher for many years, I think these questions could work well with 4th, 6th, and possibly 7th graders.
