Description

I created these Common Core (CCSS) aligned discussion and constructed response questions for the wonderful novel, "Riding Freedom". If you and your students love "Esperanza Rising", I highly recommend "Riding Freedom". Although the book is a work of fiction, it is based on the true story of Charlotte (Charley) Darkey Parkhurst - a woman who posed as a man and was able to vote before women were granted the right to vote!

The set contains 34 digital discussion questions for use on Google Classroom. I have also included a R.A.C.E.S. chart to remind students to use R.A.C.E.S. when answering discussion questions.

Although I am a fourth grade teacher and was a fifth grade teacher for many years, I think these questions could work well with 3rd graders and possibly 6th graders.
