Reading Strategies & Skills Observation Checklist

This is a list I compiled of a variety of skills and strategies that I wanted to be able to keep track of when I listened to students read or met with them in groups. This is an informal record that can help drive a teacher's instruction based on individual observations of students' needs.

I would have these two sheets copied back to back, one for each student. I would record the date at the top of a column and check off skills/strategies I noticed them using that day. This could help you determine specific areas students need to improve on & then you could focus on those when you read with them. If I had more to record than would fit in the tiny space I used the boxes on the back to keep track of my more specific anecdotal notes.
