Readers' Theater: Chemical Reactions and Chemical Changes

The setting of this Readers’ theater is a fireworks' celebration along a rocky shoreline. Within this setting, your students will be introduced to the properties of chemical reactions and the signs of chemical changes. Students will learn to recognize the characteristics of these two concepts as the story in the script unfolds. The signs/indicators of a chemical change will be taught with concrete examples that will help students relate. The informative text is loaded with new information and vocabulary, yet is kept “light” with fun interjections from The Sound Effect Crew and a surprise encounter with Kaboom the Genie. Along with this script you will receive a list of vocabulary words, experiment suggestions with links to the activities, helpful hints for pre-teaching, informative links for students, and a wrap-up sheet to check for student understanding.
