What educators are saying

"Fall of the House of Usher" was in our textbook and included super dry activities. I needed something to better engage the students, and this resource was great to supplement the textbook unit and add fun activities.
This resource broke down a complicated story into easily digestible pieces. My students were engaged.

Description

You need this packet of 4 activities to help your students read like detectives as they tackle Edgar Allan Poe's challenging short story "The Fall of the House of Usher!" For pre-reading, your students will think about or research mental illness and response to death from the 1830s.

As students read the story, they complete the Active Reading Guide so they are focusing on the symbolism and duplicity in the story. After reading the story, students complete the close reading activity which focuses on Poe's development of mood and their paraphrasing of some of the key passages of the story. As a final project, students create a real estate brochure to sell the House of Usher! This packet includes model student assignments and even an example brochure!
