What educators are saying

Perfect tool for alternative assessments. Students are tasked with determining the area of composite figures and include circles.
This was a great resource to use with my 5th grade students. It was definitely challenging for some.

Description

Find the area and perimeter of composite (irregular) figures with this set of challenging task cards!

This set contains 12 task cards, in both color and black and white versions, that require students to find the area of composite figures (or the area of the shaded region of figures with "holes" in them). Many of the cards also require students to find the perimeter of the figures, as well. Some of the perimeter problems require the use of the Pythagorean Theorem, so two versions of the recording sheet are provided - one for students who do not know the Pythagorean Theorem and one for students who do know the Pythagorean Theorem.

Task cards are very versatile, so I have also included a page with 3 suggestions of ways you can use the cards in your classroom.

These cards range in difficulty level, so you should be able to challenge all students in your class with these cards.

Answer keys for both versions of the recording sheet are included.

The 12 pages of this product include:

- 1 cover page

- 1 page with suggestions for use

- 3 pages each containing 4 color task cards

- 3 pages of the ink-saving black and white version of the 12 cards

- 2 versions of recording sheet

- 2 answer keys

I turned the task cards into a game/competition with my class and it was a big hit with my students! I hope your students enjoy these task cards, as well!

Looking for more practice with irregular figures? Check out this worksheet on the area & perimeter of composite figures! It makes a great independent classwork or homework assignment.
