Description

Just revised! Students will increase their reading comprehension with this Ocean Animals Emergent Reader. It is perfect for teaching vocabulary about ocean animals. It is one of 4 books associated with our JULY Vocabulary calendar. Your students will learn the words DOLPHIN, OCEAN, OCTOPUS, SHARK, CORAL, JELLYFISH and WHALE in a fun PIGGY BACK SONG format! The real photos are great for your ELL and emergent learners.

It is also great for Distance Learning because we have included a guide on what to do with these books. You can help parents teach about ocean life in this simple reader as well as practice reading, learn ocean life vocabulary and do phonics all with this one resource!

There is a page with the words that they can highlight as well as illustrate for their poetry notebooks. My students love going back to these songs and they have helped them to remember the words, so it is improving their reading as well as their knowledge about science and social studies units that we are studying. Sometimes I catch a couple of students singing the songs together.

We have also included a teacher guide on how to use the empty boxes on the pages of the emergent readers. We like to use them to teach phonetic elements in the words. It really helps our students to see the connections in the words.

Just added: word wall ocean vocabulary cards with the real photos from the book. I display them at the beginning of our unit on oceans and they help my students to make connections with how all the words relate to each other. There is a teacher guide on how to use the cards. The real photos have helped my ELL students to better understand the vocabulary words. They also like using them in the writing center. It helps them to stay on topic.

And differentiated worksheets where students put words in sentence order. There are sheets with 4 words and sheets with 6 words. Students practice handwriting when they copy the sentence, then they will illustrate the sentence and there is a bonus sentence or question at the bottom of each worksheet. I love using them in literacy centers during guided reading. I have also used them in my guided reading groups, especially when I first introduce how to complete the sheets.

Differentiated Easel Assessments that include audio where all the words are read to the students, and one that has no audio for students who need to read it for themselves. There are multiple choice, yes, no, true, false and a open-ended question.

Included:

-Color OCEAN LIFE book

-BW OCEAN LIFE book

-Lyrics for song

-7 Word Wall Cards that are real photos of the ocean vocabulary from the book that can also be used in a writing center
