Description

No time for social studies? Combine reading comprehension AND social studies with this set of graphic organizers for reading. The New Year's Day passage in this resource will help your students succeed at comprehending informational text. The reading comprehension strategies are each practiced with a different graphic organizer that will enable students to learn about New Year's Day.

One informational text passage is used in six different graphic organizers for reading. The six reading comprehension strategies taught in this resource will help your students practice the following skills:
• using text evidence to answer explicit and inferential questions
• identifying the main idea and supporting details
• writing a summary
• explaining what happened and why it happened
• determining the meaning of words with context clues
• close reading of the text


Step-by-step lesson plans for the reading strategies are included in this resource making it easy to use. These lesson plans feature learning goals, supplies/materials needed, and suggestions for making the most of the graphic organizers.
