What educators are saying

Very interactive for my students. I set this up on the wall for global awareness, as opposed to a book. Students were engaged with matching the images to the correct page, which lead to open discussions about the tradition posted and how it is similar/different from their own traditions.

Description

Are you looking for hands-on and engaging resources for your New Year activities? Do you want your students to work on their recognition of symbols, and instructional skills? Are you looking for activities to teach your students about how the New Year is celebrated all around the world? If so, these adapted books are perfect to use with your special education and autism students.

On each page of the adapted books your students will be faced with an image and a tradition for a country to celebrate New Year. Students have to pay attention to the sentence, and then look at the image. Then, find the matching symbol for the page. This is a great opportunity for students to work on their reading and language skills too.

Instructions

  • Print out all of the pages.
  • Cut out and laminate each of the pages and bind into adapted books.
  • Cut out and laminate each of the individual symbols and place velcro onto the back of them.
  • Laminate the final base - the base board - and add velcro onto these.
  • Place the individual symbols onto the base board. Students choose the symbols from the base board to place onto the adapted book as they complete it.
