Description

A great cross-curricular activity to do with math, writing, art, and home-economics!

Middle School students will create plush toys and a story book based on a monster drawn by a Kindergarten student. Students will be given only minimal guidance as they solve problems encountered in the process. Students will also keep records of the process using process symbols and journaling.

Students begin by reading monster stories with Kindergarten students, using their best presentation skills. K students then draw monsters. MS students use these drawings for the project.

This project involves art skills to make a play dough monster from the drawing, math skills to make a pattern, sewing skills to make a plush toy, and writing and drawing skills to make a storybook about the monster.

The key in this project is that students are allowed to make mistakes and solve their problems.

Includes directions, supply list, grading rubric, and flowchart example.

Projects are best sewn on machine, but may also be sewn by hand.
