Description

Roald Dahl's delightful short story Man From the South gets students critically thinking with all the dark humor and simplistic language that this classic author is known for. This Man From the South unit includes everything necessary to do a comprehensive study of the short story. Start students off with thinking critically about real life risk takers to set the stage for them thinking about the risk that Carlos and the American boy take.

Students will identify the elements of plot such as conflict, point of view, exposition, rising action, etc. They will also get in depth work identifying and supporting motifs and themes from the text! Additionally there are comprehension questions that will aid in building inference skills! There is a ten question quiz, with a bonus summary prompt that helps begin to prep their writing assignment of an I.C.E. paragraph! The I.C.E. format will really help to be a gradual step to getting them to create longer informative writings.

Answer keys are included for everything and there is a rubric for the I.C.E. paragraph!
