Description

This Listening Practice Valentine's Day Freebie is a great activity to have your students practice their listening skills. Listening comprehension is a very valuable skill and is tested on Common Core State Tests. It is also a very DIFFICULT skill to master and takes practice and repetition. This activity requires students to listen to the audio (linked within the assignment) to answer the questions. Students must rely solely on their listening skills to answer the questions.

This freebie is a sample of what is included in the NPR Listening Unit Volume 1. Included in this resource is a ten question comprehension quiz and two-short answer questions. Both activities are also included as digital resources. This is a no-prep lesson with links for the audio embedded into the digital slides. Work with students on listening to the audio and answering questions or have them work independently.

Check out this blog post with more details on how to teach listening comprehension in your classroom!

Recommendation: If this is your first time practicing with listening comprehension, complete the assignment with the students. Listen to the audio MULTIPLE times as a class. Have your students focus on one or two questions each time they listen. As you continue to practice listening comprehension skills, it will become easier for them to work on these types of assignments independently.

Included:

  • 1 Comprehension Quiz (10 Questions)
  • 1 Comprehension Quiz Answer Key
  • Short Answer Questions (2 Questions)
  • Short Answer Questions Answer Key
  • Link to the NPR Audio (2 minutes)
  • Both activities on Google Slides
  • Comprehension Quiz on Google Forms
