Learning English Through Music

This Powerpoint presentation contains 30 current songs to help students practice figurative language, poetic devices, literary elements, and grammar. Students are presented with a link to the song, and the lyrics of that song on each slide. Along with those items is a set of directions telling the student what they are looking for in each specific song.

We complete this activity as a class, and I give the students the time of the song playing to fulfill the assignment for each song. When the song is done playing, we go over the questions and have a discussion.

This is a fun way to review or practice English, in a way that is relatable to the students.

*I always recommend teachers view videos before showing. In this case, I never actual show the video, just have the music playing in the background, while I keep the PowerPoint up so students can see the lyrics.
