Description
This outline is for a high school journalism elective. The semester is broken down into 5 units:
1. Learning all of the jobs required to put together a school paper (writing, photography, editing, etc.)
2. Law and ethics
3. Developing a journalistic style
4. The role of journalism in society
5. Careers in Journalism
The outline begins with a course overview that includes research on the positive effects of students learning about journalism and working on a school paper. This is followed by a detailed description of each unit, including essential questions, Common Core Standards, and unit vocabulary.
I was required to (and did) have this approved by the administrators at my school at the beginning of the semester\school year.
