Description

Hate That Cat by Sharon Creech has so many poetic possibilities. This low prep novel unit for Hate That Cat includes a variety of standard reading comprehension skills as well as creative writing activities related to the figures of speech and poetry used in the story. The other great feature of this book is the famous poems that are integrated throughout the story.

This is a great supplement to a poetry unit of study and really gets kids motivated to write poems and use figures of speech-- just like Jack (the main character in the story). Students also tap into many inference skills to understand the events that are happening off the pages of the book.
