What educators are saying

I used this as a remediation assignment for a few students. They didn't "enjoy" it, but they proved they learned enough to get to passing! This was a really good overview with solid graphic organizers.

Description

Provided here are simple graphic organizers to help students review content at the end of a unit of study or for Regents preparation. The sheets are designed to help students review the big ideas of a unit or its major themes. In creating these I tried to consider what the students would need to remember for an essay. They must define the events, their causes, and their impacts. There are graphic organizer sheets for 12 units of study:

1: America and its Peoples
2: Causes of the Revolution
3: The Constitution
4: The Nation Tested
5 and 6: Industry, Immigration, and Progressives
7: Rise of American Power
8: Roaring 20s and Busted 30s
9: WWII
10: Cold War
11: Civil Rights
12: Modern Era

Additionally, there are additional graphic organizers for the themes:
Constitutional Amendments
Federal Laws and Power
Court Cases
Important Historical Figures
Early Government Review Note Sheet
And Chronology / Timeline Practice

One way I like to incorporate these graphic organizers into review is by enlarging them and printing them on 11 by 17 paper. I then divide the students into small review groups of 3-4 students and have them work together to complete a graphic organizer as a team. The team that completes the graphic organizer first and most accurately will then get points.

As an example, before a midterm I would give each team the graphic organizer for Unit 1, they would have up to 5 minutes to work before I then give out the next graphic organizer for Unit 2. Every 5 minutes the students would be given an additional sheet until all units for the mid-term are covered. If a team finished before the 5 minutes, I will either check their work for mistakes or let them get a head start on the next review sheet. The students can also share out their responses at the end or between rounds. This work can help me to gauge what content the students really remember and what may require additional review.
