Girl,Interrupted: Reading Assignments and Project

This product is designed to accompany the nonfiction work Girl, Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen. It includes 17 writing prompts for journal entries students will complete independently and then use during class discussions of the reading. It also includes a collaborative extension activity for one of the journal assignments as well as a final journal assignment rubric. For their final journal assignment students are asked to write about life in the asylum either from a patient or nurses perspective. There is also a final project for the unit which requires students to select a famous person with a known mental illness and create a collage profiling the individual and their mental illness.
