    Description

Celebrate Women's History Month and teach your students all about artist Georgia O'Keeffe with this 35-slide PowerPoint presentation on her life and work and an accompanying art project! O'Keeffe's focus on flowers make this a great spring art project, but students can choose other subjects for this lesson as well!

Students will create unique artwork on their choice of subject matter, inspired by the way Georgia O'Keeffe zooms in on her images. This project is a great way to teach students how to use the grid method, a technique that helps students improve drawing accuracy. Grid drawing helps students focus on drawing only the shapes within each grid square, which is often easier than trying to draw the entire subject all at the same time. And don't fret - this lesson comes with both a grid drawing practice worksheet AND over 100 reference images for your students to choose from!

The Georgia O'Keeffe PowerPoint may take up to one class period. The art lesson, recommended for middle school and high school students, spans about 3 to 5 class periods and results in improved art skills and beautiful works of art that you will be eager to put on display!

This lesson requires no prep aside from photocopying the student handouts and reference images. Download and begin teaching right away!

    This bundle includes two resources:

    1. An editable 35-slide PowerPoint that includes a short student-friendly biography of artist Georgia O'Keeffe and several slides of her paintings, generally presented in chronological order with the title and date of the work with occasional annotation.
    2. Georgia O'Keeffe inspired art project that includes:
    • Information about the art lesson and procedures for the teacher.
    • Two Georgia O'Keeffe posters to introduce her art to students.
    • Grid Method worksheet to be used as practice or pre-assessment.
    • 120 full-page pre-gridded reference photos of animals, flowers, and various objects. Can be printed or used digitally.
    • Blank grids in various sizes.
    • Grading Rubric specific to the learning objectives of this lesson.
    • Georgia O'Keeffe Wordsearch for fast finishers or just for fun!

Materials needed for the Art Project:

    • Drawing paper
    • Pencils
    • Rulers (unless using the included pre-gridded sheets)
    • Oil Pastels (colored pencils would also work)
