First Grade Personal Narrative Writing Exemplar (Lucy Calkins Inspired)

Here is the exemplar for first grade small moments or personal narrative writing workshop. (Also suitable for writing units like Authors as Mentors, I Am an Author, or Lessons from Masters Improving Narrative Writing.) Use the exemplar written by the teacher to show students clear writing expectations and use it to model each craft/examples with your mini-lesson. A diagram is included to show what element and craft was used on each page. The exemplar is aligned with the Common Core State Standards and TEKS on skills and elements of narrative writing. Use the exemplar to start narrative writing workshop with an end in mind. It is especially helpful for ELLs and students with special needs. A free student writing sample is also included to show draft, revision, and edit.
