First Day of Middle School Survival Pack + #Firstday

The teachers at We Move Kids know that your teacher game has to be super tight on Day #1. The #firstday sets the tone for the entire year. It is vital you convey a high level of professionalism, organization, and understanding to your scholars and their parents. In this first day #survivalpackage you will find:

1. Welcome Letter (in English and Spanish)- highlighted marks indicate where you should enter your personalized information. Do not ask, "who needs a Spanish copy?" Instead, just print the documents double sided so each student gets it in both English and Spanish. This will project a philosophy of inclusiveness in your classroom community. Families should keep this document on their fridge or wherever they keep important school materials.

2. Parent/Student Contact Page (in English and Spanish)

This contact page replaced the cumbersome process of using the school's data system to find a contact number (which often is obsolete). In addition, it asks parents if they will need a translator for PT conferences so you can be prepared. It also is a permission slip for the parent and/student to be entered into your Remind.com course contact system. We keep this contact page in a Binder- labeled Parent Contacts (w/ the year) and organize it by period.

3. The Course Organizer

This powerful visual syllabus utilizes a graphic organizer format and explicit teaching using the linking steps to "co-create" the Course Organizer with your students. Do not just pass out a boring syllabus and read through it line by line on day 1. We like to invest in astrobright neon paper for the Course Organizer and the students keep it tucked in the view finder of their binders. It will impress parents on open house night as well.
