Description

The ability to evaluate source credibility and identify media bias are essential media literacy skills. This resource will teach your students how to locate reliable sources and how to evaluate websites for accuracy and source credibility. This teaching packet is appropriate for all secondary levels, including middle grades and high school.

This resource includes an interactive Google Slides presentation focusing on conducting effective keyword searches, providing tips on how to utilize specific search terms in order to access the best results, and how to evaluate digital resources through a list of specific checkpoints and indicators located within the digital text. Students will take notes and answer questions on the Website Evaluation Slides Presentation handout.

Students will have access to a project page created with Google Sites. The Evaluating Sources Site features links to 12 digital resources for your students to review, analyze, and evaluate for source credibility.

Differentiated handouts are included to ensure learning success with your students who have differing ability levels.

This teaching packet provides teachers with the tools needed to ensure students can locate quality digital texts, make informed choices when accessing and selecting online resources in their research, and activities for students to gain the skills needed in order to reach an understanding of their research through the process of accessing, selecting, and synthesizing quality information.

All materials in this resource are compatible with Google Drive. Printable copies of the student handouts are also included. Teachers will have access to a key for the website evaluation activity.
