Description
Do you need resources to introduce the concept of employability skills to your learners? These are two presentation resources for a unit of work around work and job-seeking suitable for youth or adults who are exploring their skills for the world of work. Use them to present key concepts and as a prompt for discussion, note-taking, and writing.
The Employability Skills video shows a hand transcribing the words and drawing the accompanying image for each employability skill. Start a discussion with your learners and ask them to think about the sub-skill for each category. For more information, go to youthcentral. employability skills to see the list of sub-skills.
The PowerPoint prompts learners to think about the difference between skills and qualities with a focus on how to answer interview questions embodying both skills and qualities in their responses. Use the PPT to guide learners to think about their own responses.
The worksheet guides learners to write an explanation of their employability skills using the STAR model: Situation, Task, Action, Result.
Entering employment requires knowing what employers are seeking and knowing what you can offer. These resources can help learners understand this and prepare their responses to common employment questions.
The video is created with fantastic high-quality scribe software, the video format choices are:
* mp4 with or without background music
* wmv with or without background music
* flv with or without background music
Use the format that is most suitable for your needs.
Add your own audio to the videos without music.

SUGGESTED USE
I recommend introducing students to the concept of employability skills first through one of the websites or resources I have listed below. Employability skills are much more than soft skills or occupational skills.
I have used this video and PowerPoint during a unit of work on employability skills. It has helped them understand the concept and elements of employability skills.
Accompanying resources include the Identifying employability skills worksheet and the Analysing job advertisements both available in my store. This is the order of teaching I suggest.
- Start with the video and PPT
- Next, complete the analysing job advertisement worksheet.
- Finally, the writing activity worksheet. There are more writing worksheets in my store.
